Oval Stirrup Ring
Oval Stirrup Ring
Natural Australian Parti Sapphire Oval Cut (5.5mm W x 3.5 L), 9ct yellow gold
The Stirrup Ring dates back from the twelfth century until well into the fourteenth century. With Its distinctive form resembling both a horse stirrup and a gothic arch, these rings were distinguished by an elegant simplicity and were worn by both clergy and laymen. The main feature of the stirrup ring include a tall profile - simple yet bold/satisfying geometry.
Original iterations from the twelfth century onwards were set with cabochon stones. I wanted to re-interpret this old design using modern faceted gem stones for a more modern and contemporary look.
* As the gemstone is natural, the colour variations of the sapphire are unique and cannot be replicated, this makes it a one of a kind piece.
